Bold, confident and experienced leadership with a consistent record of focus and commitment - that's what Downers Grove needs.

My goal is to be a contributor to our Village by working with our community. Making Downers Grove the best it can be and helping us adjust to, and take advantage of, opportunities along the way is what I truly enjoy.

Let's do more, together

For many, Downers Grove is where we make our single biggest investment and where we raise our families and plan for retirement. It's where we establish roots and memories and where we live. It’s where we find joy and satisfaction in the every day, safety and comfort in the familiar, and excitement about the future.

As your Mayor, I’ll invite and lead efforts that focus on service, inclusion and transparency, and tackle the difficult conversations head on, together.

HOW WE'll get There

We'll do more by staying focused on the values of responsibility and engagement that have made Downers Grove a community to celebrate.

Thousands Needs

Bob Barnett currently serves the Village of Downers Grove Council. He was elected to his first term in 2009, and is now the longest consecutive serving member.

Partnering with other agencies and experts, Bob earned a reputation for making process and policy decisions to improve delivery and management of Village services. Those successful efforts include raising fire safety ratings and police service accreditation while improving our credit rating and maintaining eight years of property tax freezes in operations. As a result, the Village enjoys exceptional public safety ratings and a credit rating that remains one of the best in our State.

His service also includes advising the Downers Grove Stormwater and Flood Plain Oversight Committee in 2008, the Liquor Commission from 2002 to 2008, and the Park District Outdoor Pool Advisory Committee from 2001 to 2002.

He is currently the Council Liaison to the Library Board of Trustees and has served as liaison to Human Services Commission and the DuPage Mayors and Managers Legislative Subcommittee. And he makes a point to be present and available to residents and business leaders, and share tough discussions where they're needed and most convenient for residents to engage.

He and his family volunteer for PADS and Feed My Starving Children. Bob is also a regular “cook” at the Annual Pancake Breakfast for Navigate Adolescence (formerly HGNA), providing kids and parents with tools to build confidence, resilience, and kindness.

Other volunteer service includes the Grove Foundation from 2002 to 2006, and the Board of Elders and Congregation President at Immanuel Lutheran Church from 2000 to 2010.

Recently, Bob joined the business development team at Samuel Son & Company. Previously, he helped operate and manage BarnettBates Corporation, and led engineering projects for companies like Commonwealth Edison. He earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Evansville, and an MBA from Keller Graduate School of Management.

Bob and his wife Cary moved to Downers Grove in 1998 and are proud to raise their three children (and one dog) in our community they call home.
